Nerf Vortex spotted @ US Toys R Us: Guess they didn't get the memo..

Me thinks Toys R Us didn't break into factories for their early releases... :P
In very interesting news brought to our attention from the blog Aidan Wolf Nerf, it would appear at least one Toys R Us store in the US have already started to stack their shelves with the upcoming Nerf Vortex line. Prices are apparently pretty exi by US standards although no doubt they'll be quite a bit more here in Australia when they eventually come out.

If anyone else has spotted them at their stores prematurely, I'd be very interested to hear about it. :) You just gotta laugh.. 9-10-11 Vortex has to be the most botched up PR campaign ever for generating hype ever..

  5. Toys R Us' US website lists the Nitron as available, and at the price shown in the photographs ($54.99 USD). However, the page looks rather spare - it has no picture and little information, leading me to believe that it is either an as-of-yet uncorrected mistake... or the beginning of a full upload... Here's hoping for the second (though it would create one heck of a mess for LPR to clean up...)

If the link doesn't lead anywhere in a few hours, though, I suppose that the first explanation is the valid one...

  6. the prices will be the same when it's time for the official release

  7. is it in utah also??? anyone know o.0 FREAAAAAAAAAAAAKIN WANT!!! i'll prob just take the hour drive down to toys r us and find out for myself... o.0 must have.

P.S. you can order the nitron on their website from what I can see, but they don't have a pic for it, and none of the other vortex blasters are listed.

  8. Almost two months early? Yeah, I'd be fine with getting my hands on Vortex prematurely.

    ReplyDelete
  9. No sign of them in my area, sadly :(

    ReplyDelete
  10. they didn't have it in Utah :/ drove an hour to the nearest Toys R us to see... but nothing. got myself a barrel break though since they are only at Toys R us.

  11. toys r us released the stampede and the raider early in California as well...

  12. I was able to snatch the 2011 dart tag blasters about a month before they were supposed to be released, ofc from my local TRU ;)

  13. Yeah, just picked up 2 Vigilon, 1 Praxis and 1 Nitron @ the Walmart in Mt. View, CA...kinda disappointed with the Nitron (feels like a larger version of the barricade)

    ReplyDelete
  14. Seems like most of CA is getting Vortex. I am so happy.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Anonymous ^^- any chance you can provide for us the Walmart Product code #?

    ReplyDelete
  16. hey walmart, that # and some info on the blasters performance would be greatly appreciated.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Damn, I left my receipt back at home (I'm currently traveling) - will post later this week when i get back.

As for blaster performance,I like Vigilon and Praxis, not so hot on the Nitron. Seems to me the new disc ammo shoots a bit slower (tends to hover for a bit rather than arcing downwards fast) than the regular dart ammo.

Too bad i can't post pics in the comments section here.

  18. Instead of being Anonymous, I'll post w/ my handle.

Actually found the receipt for the Vigilon in my pocket (the other for Praxis/Nitron is at home)

Here's the Walmart Product Code for the Vigilon:
    065356961762

    Bought it for $15.88

    ReplyDelete
  19. how does the product code help? :o i can't find anywhere on walmart.com to see a place to search for a product by product code.

    ReplyDelete
  20. ....I"m apparently missing something, because I can't figure out how to look stuff up on the Walmart site with a product code number.

  21. I bought a Proton from toys r us today, and I gotta say, this is one accurate gun! I get an average range well above 50 feet (didnt have a longer measuring tape, so i couldnt tell the excat measurments) and from long distance, I get relatively close to my target. But as for Medium ranges, no problem hitting it. Hits hard too, and I would definatly recommend this to anyone needing a new sidearm ^^

  22. which toys r us? like what state? o.0 i want it to come to utah... so badly...

    ReplyDelete
  23. Lol lucky people I live in alabama and i have problems like some people where it sais the nitron is out in toys r us...i want the praxis most though :)

    ReplyDelete
  24. same, I want praxis most of all. nitron sounds like it will be too noisy. I just want it for the 20 disc clips and the weird scope. but I think the praxis looks better, and it won't be as heavy. Anyone know if it can slamfire?

    ReplyDelete
  25. got a proton and vigilon at a target in the Rohnert Park, CA

    ReplyDelete
  26. No slamfire. Sadly the way these work (praxis and proton at least, the ones i bought) u cant actually hold the trigger down untill u prime the blaster first. Nor can u actually fire blank shots, can only pull the trigger fully after primed when a disk is loaded and ready to go. Bugs me personally, but its also silly.

I got both of mine in toys r us in california, btw.

  27. Target DCPI number on the Proton? Anyone?

    ReplyDelete
  28. wow did they miss the memo. but same here i just want the praxis. portal

  29. Am I the only thinks that if this line is anything like the others there will be many more guns that are succesful disk shooters by Nerf? I mean think of N-Force, it started out as simple 10 dollar swords and now have grown into things like double swords that go together and come apart, maces, and axes. So far we know that there are 4 guns and clip refills. I think that also on the "Vortex VS. N-Strike" thing Pocket should do something like Stampede vs. Nitron, Proton vs. Nitefinder, Praxis vs. Alpha Trooper or Recon and also Vigilon vs. Maverick or Speadload 6 (which ever is more similar). Going back to my idea of having Vortex be a full line My Idea is something like having more clip guns (specifically one that is very small with a 3 disk clip). Also one or two more non clip guns that are not pistols. Maybe one you pump guns. They should also come out with a sniper rifle one. It would use a 4 disk clip and be modeled after the Halo Reach Sniper Rifle. It would have a tactical rail to put it's box scope on. It would also come in 3 seperate color schemes all sold at the same time, camo, black with grey detailing, and lastly white with black detailing. They should also have a bull pup style one. The sniper rifle would be bolt action. Lastle to close this enourmous thing up, Pocket if you like my ideas could you send these to Nerf?

    ReplyDelete
  30. I don't know if my last comment posted so Pocket, My Idea was a snow camo and woodland camo style bolt action sniper rifle loosely based on a Halo Reach Sniper Rifle.

  31. Sorry if I just posted some spam like stuff.

  32. @long anonymous comment

First, Pocket doesn't work for nerf. though maybe he has connections with people that are actually on the inside of the company. I don't know lol :o but yeah just saying...

Second, Vortex is its own line, just like N-strike is its own line, and dart tag is its own line. (which is why it would be vigilon vs. maverick since its the Vortex line vs the Gear up "Themed" N-strike line). Also they wouldn't do single blasters vs each other (my opinion), because they want it to be seen as good of a line of blasters as N-strike, and it doesn't really seem like a good idea to me to just have a specific blaster against each other when it comes to advertising. They want to promote the whole line together. which leads to my third point.

Many people probably already know, or have guessed that there will be other vortex guns. N-strike added more, and just like that, vortex will also I assume. I personally think vortex will add more blasters within 6 months of the initial release. Also, N-stike won't quite. They will eventually get more because well... people like darts lol. Discs are cool, but darts are huge.

And has anyone seen the Koosh vortex tornado? go look it up, and see how it shoots. Maybe nerf could make a third line that shoots like that. maybe have horizontal loading clips? I think it would be cool.

  33. @TURTLE!!! Sorry for the long post, I meant Pocket could do something like send Nerf a slim-downed version of my comment. I also meant he would do the blaster vs. blaster thing while Nerf does the line vs line. So what do you think random people here?

    ReplyDelete
  34. BTW, the Nitron's electronic scope is completely useless in the dark - the green light emitting causes too much of reflection inside...only usable during the day, but not effective (its more cool, gimmicky) - my two cents..

    ReplyDelete
  35. Ohhhhh i see, yeah pocket or someone could do a blaster vs. blaster thing. You could probably go to nerf.com and find some way to send suggestions to them. Most companies like to see people's suggestions. though there are so many so they can't please everyone lol.

  36. @TURTLE!!! I'll be back...

  37. This is not a question but instead an idea. I already know about the upcoming Nerf Vortex guns. For the ones besides the 4 we already know about you should do something like a bolt action sniper rifle that includes:3 4 disk clips, two stocks that you can interchange (I mean a Praxis style one and a folding one), 12 disks, a scope that zooms 2x like a real one (non adjustable). That is about it for this one. I also have an idea for an extremely powerful rifle style gun. It would be reverse plunger (this is for a new N-Strike gun not Vortex) and in the barrel have 3 fly wheel systems. This means that it would hopefully get ranges of over 100 feet (I am saying this because it would be like 3 barricades and a recon combined). You should also do atleast one Bullpup style gun. I have two more Vortex gun ideas. The first one is a small gun with a 3 disk clip which would be loaded in the front of the gun. It would have a maverick style firing mechanism. For my other Vortex idea it would be an Assault Rifle style one like the Nitron. It could hold one clip in it's stock, it would be burst fire and would fire 3 disks in half a second. This gun would require you guys at Nerf/Hasbro to make a new Firing Mechanism. I also have two more ideas for N-Strike guns and one N-Force weapon. The N-Force weapon would be a spear. It would be 15 dollars and made of the same foam as a warlock. The other N-strike gun would be CS and use a 50 dart drum like what the Stampede used originally. The next one would be a remake of a very old classic blaster that any Nerf nerd would instantly remember... A Crossbow remake. It would fire the sonic micro darts and arrows which is similar to the original. This gun would be just as useful as the original. I think it should have the same internals as the old one with a new shell.

EXTRA DETAILS: The bolt action Vortex gun would cost 60 and be called "The Master". My weird rifle gun would be 50 dollars. The Bullpup gun would be 30 and semi automatic, to explain this further the dart from the clip would come out when you pull the trigger slightly which releases a dart block. The dart will then go into a flywheel at the back of the gun and be launched forward in the barrel to a second flywheel system near the front of the gun and launch the dart far. The Assault Rifle style Vortex gun would be called "The Terminator" and be 40 dollars. This gun would also use a new 15 round clip. And lastly for the Crossbow remake it's shell will be similar but still different. The colors will be purple with orange detailing.

If anybody likes this idea can you send it to the lead designer of the Nerf guns and see if they like it. If they do could someone send me an E-mail saying so. Also if they do comeout could you possibly send the prototypes to me? whether or not these ideas would come out can you send me an E-mail saying yes or no?

Well that is all, I hope you guys enjoy my idea and if you do like them you don't have to give me much credit just send me the prototype and say in something like the very fine print. Of course this is what I would want. You guys don't have to send me anything I'd just want that. Oh and lastly in the E-mail you guys would hopefully send me I would like the release date if you like the ideas. So here's hoping for a yes from you guys. See ya later! Also if this sounds weird that is because I meant to send this message to Hasbro.

  38. iunno if that anonymous guy (with the suggestion to nerf) will ever check this post again lol, but yeah... nerf can't make anything imaginable. There are limitations.

not trying to be rude... but lots of the stuff I see isn't too realistic in a business sense. (and some technical senses)

first of all, adding a second and third flywheel doesn't do anything to increase the speed unless those flywheels themselves are going faster. A dart or discs speed doesn't double if there is a another flywheel. it just makes that dart/disc go as fast as the flywheel propels it. and since there would only be about a few inches in between the flywheels, and adding more flywheels doesn't increase the speed of the dart/disc(assuming all the flywheels are going the same speed, and even if they aren't they would only get launched as fast as the final flywheel propels them), it would be more cost productive to only have one powerful flywheel. Also they would have to launch it faster than the air plunger did, otherwise the flywheel would slow it down, which means it might as well only have the flywheel, or the reverse air plunger.

Second, nerf is a business interested in kids toys. As much as older kids like them, they need to be safe for young kids as well (since that is their target, though they could easily make some geared towards high school and college aged kids which are more powerful. I think they should.) This is the reason many people mod blasters, because nerf doesn't make their blasters powerful enough for what they want. If nerf wanted they could easily make their blasters with stronger springs and a little bit of reinforcing or stronger material which would automatically make them shoot much farther. (80+ feet easily)

Third, telling nerf they would need to come up with a new firing mechanism isn't prob going to get their attention unless you gave specifics on pretty much how they would actually do it. They already have plans and research going, they don't have time to research a way to make every idea that someone sends them work (not saying yours is bad, but my guess is a lot of people have sent them ideas that they themselves would have no idea how it would work, or even if it is possible or feasible to make). More than likely something like that wouldn't be easy to make or cheap to put in a TOY blaster.

Lastly, you can contact them yourself. Don't ask someone else to. More than likely no one will contact them for you. Just go to nerf.com or hasbro.com and find a way to contact them from their site. Or google it, google is pretty reliable lol. Don't be surprised if you don't get a reply though. If you do, thats pretty cool, but yeah just because you tell them to reply saying yes or no, doesn't mean they will. They have things to do and places to go and people to see.

  40. there is a gear up raider in a walmart in Logan. not any of the others though which is kinda odd... but it prob means they are on their way soon.
